Israel!

Today is my first full day in Israel, and I thought I would dash off a quick post before dinner. We arrived at 11am local time yesterday morning, and I didn't sleep a single minute on the flight. At least I watched some great movies though! I also had a really nice Israeli woman who sells beauty products with dead sea minerals. She had been out of the country for a year for work, and was really excited to be going home to see her mom. She was in the aisle row and would do small favours for me so I wouldn't have to get up - like bringing my meal tray to the back, and even getting me a sandwich at one point! I was joking to myself that she was my "plane mom".

In any event, I was SUPER tired yesterday, as we didn't get back from dinner until around 11pm. The meal took forever to arrive, but was delicious. Possibly the best chicken I've ever had (although my mom does make a pretty awesome chicken breast...)

I need to go catch the group before we head to dinner - I promise more details in my next post!

  4. Was that Israeli woman by any chance selling Ahava dead sea beauty products? Ahava is a major target of the boycott campaign since their products are made from stolen Palestinian natural resources in illegal settlements like Mitzpe Shalem. Nonetheless they still like to lael their product as "made in Israel". It should be noted that although one-third of the western shore of the Dead Sea lies in the occupied West Bank, Israel has closed off the entire shore of the Dead Sea and its resources to Palestinians in the West Bank.

  5. No, she wasn't selling Ahava. It was a brand I had never heard of.

I'd like to avoid getting into a discussion/debate about this in such a forum, so all I'm going to say is that I believe Israel's peace treaty with Egypt demonstrates that when Israel has a genuine peace partner She is willing to give up both land and natural resources for peace (keeping in mind that the Sinai has oil fields).

Israel shares the Dead Sea with Jordan, and I look forward to the day Israel also shares it with a Palestinian State that lives next to Israel in peaceful co-existence.

I'm going to follow up with you via email so we can discuss further.
